Exercise Boosts Brain Function Across All Ages, Massive Study Confirms 💪💪
Hi and happy Tuesday! Here is this week’s longevity news.
Exercise Boosts Brain Function Across All Ages, Massive Study Confirms. Exercise significantly improved general cognition, and this was true across all age groups and exercise modalities. Some of the best cognitive outcomes, for instance, were associated with exercises that place emphasis on complex movement patterns, like yoga, Tai Chi, and exergames. These are low-intensity exercises, and yet they could be giving our brain a unique workout.
Even the richest Americans face shorter lifespans than their European counterparts, study finds. At every wealth level in the U.S., mortality rates were higher than those in the parts of Europe the researchers studied. In some cases, the wealthiest Americans have survival rates on par with the poorest Europeans in western parts of Europe, such as Germany, France and the Netherlands.
Microplastics in air enter plant leaves, pass to animals & humans: Study. Plant leaves absorbed microplastics and nanoplastics directly from the air, with the particles subsequently entering the food chain through herbivores and crops consumed by humans, a new study found. The study also found that microplastics could travel through the plant’s water and nutrient transport systems to reach other tissues. Given that leaves are a key part of the food chain, microplastic particles that accumulate here can easily pass to herbivores and crop leaves, both of which can be directly consumed by humans.
Drinking from plastic bottles directly linked to high blood pressure and heart problems. Plastic containers and packaging are everywhere, as many people rely on them for food storage, convenience, and hydration. Plastics have improved modern life in countless ways, but the ultimate price of this convenience is only now coming clearly into focus. According to preliminary insights, microplastics can migrate into our system, with potential effects on blood pressure measurements.
What’s next?
Next week I will show you my protein and creatinine results.
For any new readers: I am trying to live to (at least) 151. To get there, I follow 2 main principles:
Live a super-healthy life (based on what science deems positive for longevity)
Measure what’s going on in my body and tune any metrics that are off to become optimal
I also summarize interesting news and stories from the longevity space. And I share everything worth sharing with you.
If you enjoyed this newsletter, I would be very grateful if you gave it a ‘like’ (the ❤️ at the top).
