When I went to check my B vitamins, I also checked the total protein level in my blood serum and my creatinine levels.
Here are my test results:
Total protein: 73 g/L (Normal range = 64 - 83 g/L)
Creatinine: 0,94 mg/dL (Normal range = 0,67 - 1,17 mg/dL)
Total protein level in the blood serum measures the combined amount of two major types of proteins in the blood:
Albumin – Helps maintain fluid balance in your blood vessels and carries hormones, vitamins, and other substances.
Globulins – Play roles in immune function, blood clotting, and other vital processes.
Low levels may indicate:
Liver or kidney disorders
Malnutrition or malabsorption
Digestive disorders like celiac or Crohn’s
High levels may indicate:
Chronic inflammation or infection
Certain cancers (e.g., multiple myeloma)
Dehydration
The creatinine test measures the level of creatinine in the blood serum. Creatinine is a waste product produced by our muscles during normal metabolism and is filtered out of the blood by your kidneys.
What does it tell you?
Creatinine levels help assess how well your kidneys are functioning.
High creatinine may suggest:
Kidney dysfunction or damage
Dehydration
Certain medications affecting kidney function
Low creatinine (less common) may occur with:
Low muscle mass
Severe malnutrition
Some liver diseases
My results were in the middle of the normal ranges, and hence no further action is taken.
What’s next?
Next week I will share interesting news from the longevity space.
For any new readers: I am trying to live to (at least) 151. To get there, I follow 2 main principles:
Live a super-healthy life (based on what science deems positive for longevity)
Measure what’s going on in my body and tune any metrics that are off to become optimal
I also summarize interesting news and stories from the longevity space. And I share everything worth sharing with you.
If you enjoyed this newsletter, I would be very grateful if you gave it a ‘like’ (the ❤️ at the top).
Have a good day,
Johan
