Maybe Money Can't Buy Happiness, But It Can Buy Longevity...
Hi and happy Tuesday! Here is this week’s longevity news.
Maybe Money Can't Buy Happiness, But It Can Buy Longevity...
These are the 10 countries where people live the longest:
🇲🇨 Monaco
🇸🇲 San Marino
🇭🇰 Hong Kong
🇯🇵 Japan
🇰🇷 South Korea
🇧🇱 Saint Barthélemy
🇦🇩 Andorra
🇵🇫 French Polynesia
🇨🇭 Switzerland
🇦🇺 Australia
Do you notice something about this group of countries? They are also among the most affluent ones. Money goes a long way in facilitating a longer life.
Gum disease linked to common heart rhythm condition. A new study has found a link between the bacteria responsible for gum disease and atrial fibrillation, a common heart rhythm disorder that affects millions of people worldwide. The condition is associated with an increased risk of heart failure, stroke, and death. Periodontitis is the name given to a group of inflammatory oral infections caused by bacteria that live on tooth surfaces and destroy underlying supporting tissues. Proper oral care is an easy way to increase the odds of living longer.
AI may help us cure countless diseases – and usher in a new golden age of medicine. 2 weeks ago, I mentioned that we may cure all known diseases within a decade. But how? AI models like AlphaFold are revealing the 3D structures of proteins and their interactions with other molecules, including DNA, RNA, and drug compounds. This groundbreaking capability significantly accelerates drug discovery by allowing scientists to quickly identify potential drug targets, design novel molecules that precisely bind to these targets, and even anticipate potential side effects.
Researchers Identify Diets In Mid-Life Linked To Healthy Aging. A 30-year study finds a primarily plant-based diet, with minimal ultra-processed food and low to moderate amounts of animal-based foods like fish and dairy, could raise our chances of reaching 70 without developing chronic disease, according to a new study from Harvard researchers. The team evaluated how effectively the participants adhered to eight different largely-plant-based diets, and two of these stood out as superior.
What’s next?
Next week I will share my latest magnesium, selenium, and zinc results.
For any new readers: I am trying to live to (at least) 151. To get there, I follow 2 main principles:
Live a super-healthy life (based on what science deems positive for longevity)
Measure what’s going on in my body and tune any metrics that are off to become optimal
I also summarize interesting news and stories from the longevity space. And I share everything worth sharing with you.
