In September of this year, I tested my testosterone levels. They were shockingly low:
Total Testosterone: 241 ng/dL
Free Testosterone: 6.1 ng/dL
I suspected the reason was that I have been fasting (mostly intermittent fasting) and hence have been in a caloric deficit. Therefore, during the last month or so, I have increased my caloric intake to remain more or less in balance, and I also have also increased my protein intake by about 20 grams a day. And then I retested.
What happened?
My total testosterone increased to 409 ng/dL. A 70% increase!
Have I noticed any changes?
Yes, my libido has become mighty strong, and borderline distracting! 😂😂
Btw, I only tested total testosterone this time.
Am I satisfied with this, or do I want to get my testosterone further up?
409 ng/dL is OK, but it is not amazing. In 2014, my total testosterone was 672 ng/dL (23.3 nmol/L). I want to try to get back to about this level. So I am setting my target at 650 ng/dL.
How will I do this?
First, I want to optimize the key drivers of testosterone. They are: vitamins A and D, iron, B1, B2, B3, B6, K2, selenium, magnesium, zinc, sodium, chloride, omega 3, cholesterol, and protein.
If I am able to get to about 650 ng/dL doing this, then I am satisfied. If not, I will try natural supplements such as Ashwagandha, Fenugreek and Tongkat Ali.
Let’s see if I can get back to my 2014 level.
What’s next?
Next week, I will send you a few interesting news stories from the world of longevity.
For any new readers: I am trying to live to (at least) 151. To get there, I follow 2 main principles:
Live a super-healthy life (based on what science deems positive for longevity)
Measure what’s going on in my body, and tune any metrics that are off to become optimal
I also summarize interesting news and stories from the longevity space. And I share everything worth sharing with you.
If you enjoyed this newsletter, I would be very grateful if you give it a ‘like’ (the ❤️ at the top).
Have a good day,
